Without adequate funds for timely medication, a child who fell from the terrace of his house has been bed-ridden for the past three months. Seven-year-old Suna Shahi of Gahatadi, Natharpu-9, has sustained severe injuries on his back and ribs. And both of his parents happen to be hearing impaired.
According to father Dhanpati Shahi, Suna’s condition has worsened due to the lack of timely medical assistance. And more, his wounds have been infected. The family, however, have now taken the injured to the District Hospital after his condition deteriorated by the day.
Suna, now, is said not to fully recover for he did not have any kind of treatment in the past three months. With the child not in the position to stay upright or stand, he urinate and excretes in bed.
The doctor in the child’s treatment said that Suna needs a skin-graft, which at this point of the time is not possible at the hospital. “The hospital does not possess necessary equipment or the expertise to conduct the operation. Hence, he has to be taken to a fully-facilitated hospital,” Dr Rana Bahadur Bogati said.
The child, is solely on surviving on antibiotics, has been referred to another hospital. But the family which cannot afford two meals a day, has not been able to comply with the doctor’s advice because of severe financial constraints. The family is said to have nothing to sell in property or keep as collateral to take out loan. The father fears his son, without timely treatment, has very little chance to survive.
Meanwhile, the family have been knocking at the doors of the District Public Health Office (DPHO) everyday appealing to save their son’s life. DPHO Chief Bhakta Man Shrestha said that they had referred the child to another medical facility.
