Chief secy opposes NVC-CIAA merger

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Sep 10, 2014-

Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudyal has opposed the proposal to merge the National Vigilance Centre (NVC) into the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. Paudyal stressed on the need to allow the NVC, an anti-graft body under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office, to work independently. The chief secretary considers controlling corruption as a responsibility of the government rather than a separate instiution.

“Since the government cannot direct the CIAA we need other agencies to initiate the government’s responsibilities to eliminate corruption.”

Speaking at a function in the Capital on Wednesday, Paudyal also emphasised the need of expediting the drive against corruption.

He added, “The government should intensify its campaign against corruption without hampering the CIAA.”

Retired and sitting bureaucrats also addressed the programme.
