‘It was PM’s idea to bring aboard Baidya’
Sep 10, 2014-
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the idea of holding all-party conference by inducting Mohan Baidya led CPN-Maoist was that of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
Talking to a group of journalists on Wednesday, Dahal said Koirala agreed to call the all-party meeting after a separate meeting with Baidya. “If there is any delay tactics (on the part of ruling parties) in constitution writing then the blame will rest with Koirala,” the Maoist chairman said.
Dahal also accused the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of trying to disrupt the constitution writing process by pointing finger at his party and Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist. He added that the party is in favour of promulgating the statute within the January 22 deadline and any changes to the working calendar should be made accordingly. He also reminded the ruling parties not to forge consensus while dealing with the constitution writing. “Yesterday [referring to the previous CA] we had sought consensus by extending deadlines. Today it is just the matter of amending calendar,” said Dahal.
In a separate context, Dahal accused the ruling parties of not being serious about ending the House obstruction. He added that even though it does not benefit him personally to head the high-level political mechanism, such a process could help in the process of completing the remaining task of the constitution writing and peace process. Dahal added that in the absence of both HLPC and national unity government, it becomes difficult at time in the constitution writing process.
The House proceedings were obstructed for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday after opposition, including UCPN (Maoist), continued to demand formation of HLPC. Speaking in Partliament Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal leader Upendra Yadav accused ruling parties of reneging past agreements.
