- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Sep 10, 2014-

Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has urged farmers to make use of the loan facility provided by the government at an interest rate of 6 percent. The government announced during the budget presentation that it would subsidize the interest on loans for youths engaged in commercial farming so that they would not have to pay more than 6 percent.

Speaking at the inauguration of the solar facility at a local area hospital at Budhabare, Morang, Mahat lamented that Nepal was importing Rs 100 billion worth of farm products despite its massive agricultural potential. He also urged political parties not to politicize water resources.

“If politics does not influence the development of water resources in the country, it will help the country to take a leap forward,” he said. Governments change, and nobody should do politics to prevent the development of this important resource, he added.

He also stated that the government was committed to eradicating load-shedding within the next three years which will spur industrial growth.
