Nepali workers being mugged at the border

With the festive seasons just around the corner, Nepali migrant workers returning from various part of India to celebrate Dashain and Tihar have started to become the target of robbers. The migrants who are mostly involved in construction works in India are being robbed off their belongings in broad daylight by being offered food stuffs laced with sedatives.

For instance, Sajan and Ranbir Sunar, who were headed home after working for six months in Jaipur, India were found in an unconscious state on Wednesday morning.  

The two had been ripped off NRs 48,000). Apparently, the thugs had offered them bananas laced with the sedatives. Police have admitted the two victims to Bher Zonal Hospital (BZH).

Similarly, Ammar Chunara of Lekhpharsa, Surkhet was robbed off his belongings on Tuesday. After finding him in an unconscious state in Lucknow, the Indian authorities had handed him over to Nepali authorities in Nepalgunj on Tuesday. As he too was fed with sedatives, he is currently under treatment at BZH.

Meanwhile, Ranbir said that people with Nepali origin had offered him a banana after which he had fallen unconscious.

Stating that he could identify the thugs if they were presented before him, Ranbir lamented that he has been left with no money after being robbed.    

According to another victim, Sunar,  the thugs boarded the bus from Jaipur. After finding men with Nepali origins, he had accepted the food offered without a second thought about their motives.

Police said that they had been able to nab the perpetrators as they go to Baharaich, Babagunj and areas located on the other side of border after robbing their victims.
