Efforts to muzzle media: FNJ
Sep 11, 2014-
The Federation of Nepali Journalists on Thursday said there had been efforts to muzzle the press on the charge of contempt of court in recent days.
The umbrella organisation of journalists stated that such activities trouble the press despite efforts to maintain fair criticism and decency on court matters.
A meeting of the FNJ Central Committee demanded that the time for collecting public opinion on the proposed bill on contempt of court should be extended. In another context, the FNJ said that threats and harassment against journalists have increased. The federation reported that some media houses were not extending the contract of journalists and sacking them on the basis of their political ideology.
It also demanded timely salary for journalists.
