Journo among three killed in car accident

Three people including a journalist were killed in a car accident at Saljhandi along the East-West Highway in Rupandehi district on Sunday. Two others sustained serious injuries in the accident.
According to police, the car with registration number Ba 1 Cha 1812 plunged ten metres down into a lake after hitting a tree at Saljhandi-7 at around 9:30 am. The vehicle was on its way to Butwal from Pyuthan.
The deceased have been identified as the founding chairman of Pyuthan chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists Surya Bahadur Bishwokarma, 44, of Bijuwar-6, Khim Bahadur Giri, 45, of Badhikot, and his son Rohan Giri, 25. All the victims were from Pyuthan.
Two died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital in Butwal, said police.
Bishwokarma was also the former chairman of Pyuthan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was involved in more than a dozen media and social organisations in the district. The Giri family were involved in business in the neighbouring country, India.
Bishwokarma’s wife Rama, 42, and driver Krishna Sunar sustained injuries in the crash. They are receiving treatment at the zonal hospital.
