Next hearing scheduled for Oct 13

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Sep 19, 2014-

After two straight days of hearing in a contempt of court case against Kantipur Publications, the Supreme Court on Friday scheduled the next hearing for October 13. Advocates for Kantipur Publications are yet to complete their pleading on the case even as lawyers of plaint have completed their arguments.

A division bench of Justices Gopal Parajuli and Cholendra Shumsher Rana decided the hearing date. The court on Thursday began final hearing in the contempt case against Chairman and Managing Director of the Publications Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swastika Sirohiya, Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur daily Sudheer Sharma, reporter Ghanshyam Khadka, and former columnist Bijay Kumar Pandey.

Chairman Sirohiya and Editor Sharma filed separate applications before the court on Friday arguing against the working procedure of the bench. They had registered their concern that the bench had gone ahead with the hearing without one of the defendants, Pandey, being given the hearing date. Citing this, the lawyers for the publications expressed their reservations before the bench.

Editor Sharma and former columnist Pandey presented their case before the bench after the lawyers of plaint had finished with their submission. This was followed by a Q&A between Senior Advocate Shambhu Thapa and Justice Parajuli.
