Sep 21, 2014-
Contracted lecturers and employees of the Purbanchal University (PU) vandalised and padlocked its central office on Sunday, demanding withdrawal of the Purbanchal University Executive Council’s decision to end their contract.
The agitating university lecturers and employees also vandalised and padlocked the office of Science and Technology Department and the office of the Dean of Humanity Faculty.
A meeting of the council last year had decided not to extend the contract of
lecturers and staffers of the university for more than one year. Following the decision, the council had decided to relieve the contracted lecturers and staff of the university of their services from the Nepali month of Ashwin.
Eighty contracted lecturers and six employees have been working in the university. Their contract period range from one to five years.
“We will continue with the protest until our demand is addressed,” said Assistant Professor Yograj Lamichhane.
Another university official said they are preparing to announce vacancy to fill the posts of lecturers and employees whose contract period is over as per the decision taken by the council last year.
