PM’s cancer remission, say doctors
Sep 23, 2014-
Doctors treating Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the New York-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on Tuesday said he was cured of lung cancer. Koirala visited the hospital on Monday for a check-up after being treated there a couple of months ago. Diagnosed with lungs cancer in June, he had undergone five sessions of radiotherapy in July.
“We conducted CT and PET scans of his chest and lungs and relevant blood tests. We found no patches that were earlier noticed,” said PM’s private physician Dr Karbir Nath Yogi from New York. A team of doctors including Yogi and Dr Manit Bensh conducted the examination. A statement issued by the PM’s private secretariat read that Koirala is healthy now. Results of more tests are expected within this week, Nepal’s Permanent Mission in New York stated. The PM spent over a month in New York in June-July receiving treatment. About Koirala’s chronic cough, Dr Yogi said it could be due to chronic bronchitis and chronic interstitial pneumonitis, which are in the recovery phase. The Cancer Center had treated Koirala also for tongue cancer.
