US support for flood victims
Sep 24, 2014-
The US Mission in Nepal, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will contribute an additional $190,000 to increase protection for vulnerable women and children in three flood-affected districts in the country: Banke, Bardiya and Surkhet.
USAID has provided the funds to Save the Children to support the psycho-social needs of vulnerable women and children; identify, reunite or refer unaccompanied minors to appropriate services; support community-based protection activities; and train health and
education providers on identifying and responding to abuse, exploitation,
gender-based violence and psycho-social distress, said a statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
With this new assistance, the US has provided food and non-food assistance worth nearly $1.1 million to flood- and landslide-affected families in Nepal.
