Monsoon rain ‘retreating’ across country

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Sep 27, 2014-

Monsoon rains will retreat this week across the country, with possibility of brief thundershowers in some places in the East during the period.

The four-month-long monsoon spell is in retreating phase, with a reduced rainfall activity in the western and central districts over the past few days, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) forecast on Saturday.

“The withdrawal of monsoon is already taking place as many areas in the western Nepal are experiencing dry days,” said meteorologist Raju Pradhananga, adding that Pokhara, Taplejung and Lumle recorded brief rains on Saturday.

The MFD has forecast rainy days ahead, starting from Fulpati on Wednesday. “Except for some places, the weather is expected to be clear and sunny,” Pradhananga added.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology is planning a three-day rainfall and temperature forecast, compared to the current 24-hour forecast, according to Saraju Kumar Baidya, deputy director general at the DHM.
