65 apply for transitional justice posts

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Sep 28, 2014-

The Recommendation Committee has received 65 applications from aspiring candidates for the posts at the commissions of inquiry on truth and reconciliation and enforced disappearances.

Around three dozen applications are for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. On September 19, the panel invited applications for the positions in the transitional justice mechanism within September 27. The committee required a former chief justice for the chairperson’s post.

“We have received applications from legal and human rights sectors,” said Pradip Pokharel, a committee member. The applicants include retired chief judges of appellate courts to district judges, lawyers and rights activists. The committee will publish a shortlist for the people to register their complaints, if any, against the candidates. The list will also include candidates picked by the committee. The committee has a provision to headhunt persons deemed indispensable for the commissions if they do not apply on their own.
