Doti bus accident: Death toll climbs to 30
The death toll from Monday’s bus accident in Doti district has climbed to 30 following the death of three more injured passengers during treatment.Ekantipur Report
Earlier, 27 people died on the spot after a Dhangadhi-bound bus met with an accident along the rural road at Chhatiwan VDC-5 in Doti district.
According to District Police Office Doti, three more passengers died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Attariya-based hospital.
The ill-fated bus (Na 3 Kha 5707) carrying over 100 passengers swerved off the road and fell some 250 metres down at Kathpati. Most of the passengers were returning home after observing the Dashain festival with families.
Police said 29 of the deceased passengers have been identified. The dead includes 17 men and 13 women, of which five are children below 12 years.
Likewise, nine of the deceased passengers hailed from Saraswotinagar village. Seventeen others injured are in critical condition, police informed.
The deceased have been identified as Shakuntala Malla, 20, of Saraswotinagar-1, Rajendra Shahi, 45; one-year-old Rohit Bohara; Bhagirati Ojha,45; Karna Bahadur Shahi, 30; Harina Ojha, 65; Chakra Bahadur Bishwokarma, 30 and five-year-old Basanti Ojha of ward no. 2, Shanit Malla,30; Dan Bahadur Saud, 54 of ward no. 3, Rewanta Deep Khadayat, 28; Padma Ojha, 29 of ward no.5, Krishna Raj Bhandari, 50; Bhumi Raj Bhandari, 16 of ward no. 6, Nawaraj Bhatta, 32; Tekraj Bhatta, 30 and his wife Pashupati Bhatta, 28 of ward no. 8 and Hari Kathayat, 35 of ward no. 9.
Similarly, other dead are from Laxminagar VDC. The deceased are Shanti Devi Kawadel, 34 of ward no. 1, Tekendra Giri, 30 and Indra Giri, 28 of ward no. 5.
Likewise, Laxmi Malla, 30, of Barchen VDC; Bhagrathi Baduwal, 28 and her 4-year-old son Jenith Baduwal of Lamki Municipality-4 and Mahesh Sarki, 14, of Udashipur VDC have died in the accident.
Laxman Thakurathi, 35, of Amargadhi, Dadeldhura and his one-and-half year old daughter Sandhya Thakurathi; nine-year-old Dipisha Bohara of Alital, Dadeldhura also died in the accident.
Journo killed in accident
Business journalist Karna Shahi of far-west has also been killed in the fatal accident.
Shahi was working at Arthik Abhiyan daily and Lekha Jokha weekly.
