Overall rain was below average this monsoon: MFD

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Oct 11, 2014-

Many places, particularly in the eastern Nepal, experienced rainfall deficit while some pocket areas recorded uneven rain distribution this year, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).

The onset of monsoon was delayed by almost two weeks this year, affecting the transplantation of paddy crops, one of the major summer crops. Normally, monsoon enters on June 10 and retreats by September 23. The monsoon retreated this year on October 7,  said Barun Paneru, meteorologist at the MFD. He added though rains were recorded normal and above normal in some places during August, September and October, the overall rainfall remained below average in many places.  According to the MFD, this year’s monsoon remained dry along with untimely and uneven distribution in different places, affecting the overall agricultural production.
