Oct 12, 2014-

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) has decided to join hands with a pro-Hindu faction in the Nepali Congress (NC) in their quest to revive Nepal as a Hindu state.

The Central Committee meeting of the only pro-Hindu and royalist mainstream party has also decided to stage a mass demonstration in collaboration with various Hindu organisations to pressure the government.

The party has planned a gathering of hundreds of cadres, sadhus, members of the Hindu organisations for October 21 in a show of strength to press their demands. A committee has been formed under party Vice-Chairman Tanka Dhakal for the purpose.

The party also has decided to hold a signature campaign for the Hindu nation on October 24, coinciding with Gai Tihar--on the day when the cow is worshiped as a god. “We have decided to build an alliance with all the advocates of Hinduism for a joint protest in future,” said Mohan Shrestha, assistant spokesperson for the party.

Shrestha said the second phase of protest will be launched after Tihar which also includes picketing the Constituent Assembly building.

A separate nine-member coordination committee has also been former under Co-Chairman Keshar Bahadur Bista to start a dialogue with the supporters of the idea from other parties, mainly from the NC leaders, to build an umbrella association to the movement.

A faction of NC leaders led by Central Committee member and former Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka have launched a campaign “Nation, Nationality and Sanatan Hindu State” to reinstate Nepal as a Hindu state.

Meanwhile, the RPP-N has expressed serious concern over police intervention in the peaceful protest taken out by locals in Bara. One person died and 33 others were injured when police opened fire at the protesters in Simraungadh of Bara on Saturday.

The party has demanded stern action against the police personnel involved in the brutality and proper compensation to the family of the deceased and ensure health care of the injured.
