Appeal for CK Raut’s release

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Oct 18, 2014-

Amnesty International has called for an unconditional release of Madhesi rights activist CK Raut, who is in judicial custody on sedition charge. The international human rights organisation said in a statement on Friday that arbitrary arrest and detention of Raut on the basis of his peaceful expression of his political views is a breach of his right to freedom of speech, as guaranteed by the country’s constitution. Raut was arrested while he was returning from a public rally in Morang district last month. The Special Court on Tuesday had issued a bail release order to Raut, but he was taken to custody after he refused to post Rs 50,000 bail amount.
