Small farmers meet slated for Nov 2

Small Farmers’ Development Bank will be holding Small Farmers Conference 2014 in the Capital from November 2. The two-day meet will assess the existing problems and current situation of poverty in relation to agricultural development, said the organiser.

The conference is expected to bring together 1,000 participants including representatives from various government offices, Nepal Rastra Bank, banks and financial institutions, small farmers’ cooperatives, micro-finance institutions and donor agencies. It will also discuss the achievement of 40 years long campaign of the small farmers’ development. Besides, the future prospects and good practices of the campaign will also be among the main agendas, the organiser said in a press meet on Tuesday.

The convention will also discuss access to micro-finance, use of information technology and institutional development. Likewise, the meet aims to focus on improving skills, credit facility and entrepreneurship for the development of production and processing plants besides promoting institutional good governance practices, agriculture technology, agro products supply, knowledge sharing and markets.

During the conference, a total of 24 paper presentations by researchers, scholars and experts have been scheduled in 14 sessions.

According to the organiser, the conference will provide a common platform for all the stakeholders involved in the economic and social development of rural areas.
