Koirala asks minister not to hike fares

Oct 30, 2014-

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Thursday instructed Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Bimalendra Nidhi to put on hold the plan to increase transport fares.

The Department of Transport Management is preparing to hike fares. The PM asked Minister Nidhi to justify a fair hike at a time when fuel prices are going down. In a three-party meeting at the PM’s residence, the issue was raised by UCPN (M) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha. He has threatened to launch a protest if the government goes ahead with its plan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam said at the meeting that it would be inappropriate to hike the fares at this time.
