Ilam mourns deaths

The head-on collision in Makwanpur has left the district of Ilam in deep mourning. Eight of the deceased were from the eastern district. Among the deceased, five are from Ilam Municipality, two from Namsaling and one from Barbote. Most of the deceased and injured in the incident are the students of various colleges in Kathmandu.

A Metro Deluxe left Ilam for the Capital on Friday afternoon carrying 38 passengers. Majority of them were returning to the Capital after celebrating Tihar with families. Some of the deceased were involved in media as well. “I am unable to control myself as I heard early in the morning that three of my close friends were killed in the accident,” said Mausam Basnet of Golbasti.

Meanwhile, issuing separate statements, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML expressed condolence to the bereaved families. Likewise, Ilam Chamber of Commerce and Industry decided to close Ilam Bazaar on Sunday to mourn the tragedy.
