- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Nov 2, 2014-

As an attempt to control the irregularities in the literacy campaign, the Non Formal Education Centre has made it mandatory to make public the names of students enrolled in the literacy classes.

The Centre took a decision to this effect after the media reporting that fake students were enlisted to misuse funds meant for the campaign. The Centre has directed all District Education Offices to ensure that lists of illiterate people enrolled in literacy classes are displayed in respective teaching centre and VDC offices. The government aims to attain total literacy in the country by the end of 2015. According to the government, around 1.72 people are illiterate in the country and they will be enrolled in around 29,000 classes. The Ministry of Education has embarked Rs 1.05 billion to run the campaign across the country this year.
