Minister Pandit displeased by transfer of Joint-secy Subedi
Nov 11, 2014-
The Ministry of General Administration has sought clarification from the Ministry of Labour and Employment regarding the transfer of controversial Joint-secretary Bharat Subedi to the Ministry of Finance.
Dissatisfied with the transfer, General Administration Minister Lalbabu Pandit has written to the MoLE asking why Subedi was transferred without consulting the line ministry.
Minister Pandit has said that he would raise the issue at the Cabinet as well.
Subedi has been appointed the deputy director general of the Department of Inland Revenue.
In 2002, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority had raided Subedi’s house on charge of amassing illegal property. The anti-graft body had then raided the houses of 22 officials from the Revenue Service. After the Special Court Subedi a clean chit, he was reinstated at the Finance Ministry. He is notorious for intimidating businesspersons to fulfil his interests.
Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat had reportedly pressed the labour minister to transfer Subedi, who also holds a permanent residency (PR) permit for Austrailia.
Minister Pandit has been lobbying against giving important position to the public officials holding foreign residency permits. He has tabled an amendment on Civil Servant Act at the House, proposing to bar PR holding government officials from serving in the public office. The proposal has yet to be endorsed by the Parliament after objections from a group of ministers from Nepali Congress.
