PM’s brother passes away

Dr Arun Koirala, younger brother of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and the Banke president of the Nepali Congress, passed away on Tuesday. Arun, who was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, India, for pneumonia last week, died there, doctors involved in his treatment said. He was 71.

His body will be repatriated on Wednesday, an official at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi said. Arun’s wife Kiran was with him when he breathed his last. Dr Koirala was referred by the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj for further treatment. He was admitted to the TUTH last month.

Dr Koirala, a former chief of the Bheri Zonal Hospital, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. In Nepalgunj, NC leaders, cadres and well-wishers reached his residence and the NC party office to express their grief.
