Chand demands spl general meet of CPN-Maoist
Nov 19, 2014-
CPN-Maoist Secretary Netra Bikram Chand on Wednesday demanded that the ‘establishment faction’ call a special general convention to end the dispute inside the party.
Chand said that his faction would continue to boycott the party meetings until the party leadership calls a party’s full Central Committee (CC) meeting.
The CC meeting of CPN-Maoist which concluded on Sunday had asked Chand for a clarification behind holding a factional meeting in Shivagadhi village in Kapilvastu district last week. The meeting had agreed to form another party if the establishment fails to accept the proposed change. Chand, however, has said that he is not in favour of splitting the party.
He has demanded an apology from Chairman Mohan Baidya and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa for accusing him of cospiring to split the party.
He said that it was normal for his faction to hold meet seperately to discuss party’s future course at a time when the party is lacking ‘direction’ and the leadership is devoid of agendas.
The Chand faction has been pressing the CPN-Maoist leadership to call the full CC meeting of the party to set the date for a special general convention to hold an open discussion on two dominant political lines that have emerged inside the party.
During the July CC meet, Chand had challenged Baidya by proposing an alternative vision of “unified rebellion”, stressing that the party should take more revolutionary approach to complete the “unfinished people’s war”. Baidya had proposed launching “people’s revolt on the foundation of the People’s War”.
“Our main aim is to resolve the dispute inside the party through general convention and move ahead, united. We do not want to split the party as has been rumoured,” said Chand.
CPN-Maoist leadership has said the party will not call its special general convention as demanded by Chand.
“They should first apologise for acting against the party discipline. They should know that no one is above the party,” said CPN-Maoist Vice-Chairperson CP Gajurel.
