Bheri bus plunge: eight still missing

While 42 bodies were recovered on Sunday from the Bheri river in Jajarkot, district, into which a passenger bus had plunged four days ago, eight people still remain missing, police said.

The death toll of the Bheri bus plunged has reached 47 so far. The bus (Na 3 Kha 1408) skidded off the road and fell some 80 meters below at Bhur VDC-8 on the Chhinchu-Jajarkot stretch along the Karnali Highway on Thursday. The ill-fated bus was heading to Surkhet district from Jajarkot when the accident occurred.

Chief District Officer Jagat Basnet said that the search for the missing passengers is currently underway. He said that they handed over the bodies of the Bheri bus plunge to their relatives following post mortem. Meanwhile, of the 42 bodies that were recovered, 12 were cremated together at Pipale on the banks of the Bheri river on Monday, local people said. All of them hailed from Dandagaun VDC-7 in Jajarkot.
