Sajha gets two Board members

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Dec 2, 2014-

The government on Tuesday appointed two more government officials as board members of Sajha Publication.

The Ministry of Education appointed under-secretary duo Bal Ram Timilsina and Bishnu Prasad Adhikari as the board members. With their appointment, the debt-ridden publication house, which used to be led by political appointees, has come under the ambit of the government officials. Assessing that the political appointees ruined the publication house, the government in April gave the leadership to Diwakar Dhungel, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Education. The one of the oldest government entity in the country is bankrupt due to massive irregularities.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on April 8 had sacked the then Managing Director Mamta Jha, a political appointee, for her alleged involvement in corruption leading to the bankruptcy. Due to the debt amounting to millions of rupees, Sajha staffers have not received salary for more than four months.

Two weeks ago, Sajha Board closed around a dozen of its branches to decrease administrative cost. Established as Gorkha Bhasha Prakashi Samiti in 1915, the publication was transformed to its present form in 1964.
