Millions pumped into hospitality in Bhedetar

Dec 6, 2014-

With increased arrival of tourists from India and Saarc nations, entrepreneurs here have started pumping millions of rupees into the hospitality industry. Bhedetar, the gateway to the Arun valley, is becoming increasingly popular among the visitors and has started to attract massive investment.

Around Rs 2.5 billion has been invested in new hotels and restaurants, while existing hotels are being refurbished, according to Jitendra Rumjhali, secretary of the Hotel Association of Nepal’s Bhedetar chapter.

More than a dozen new hotels were constructed in the last three years. The rising number of new hotels has also promoted MICE tourism in Bhedetar. Indians account for around 40 percent of the arrivals, while 50 percent are domestic visitors and rest from other Saarc states. “The hotels here can accommodate 500 tourists at a time,” said Rumjhali.

View tower, picnic spots and stunning landscapes make Bhedetar an attractive destination for holidaymakers. Hoteliers are optimistic the place, once severely hit by the Maoist conflict, will bounce back as a top tourist spot. Govinda Karki, operator of Hotel Green Heaven, said the hotels provide almost all kinds of facilities. The room tariff ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 4,000 per night, depending on the facilities.

Around 32 hotels, including Bhedetar View, Green Heaven, Himali, Makalu, Lawati Corner, Majestic, Peace Zone, Mount Everest, Saptakoshi, and Saptarangi, produce a combined 237 room nights. They also have deluxe room facilities.

Hoteliers and travel trade entrepreneurs are also developing a tour package that includes sightseeing, rafting on the Tamor River, mountain bike and paragliding to attract more visitors. According to Karki, a picnic spot is being developed with an investment of Rs 2 million. The facility is expected to come into operation by this year.
