Rimal, Budha win paragon road race

Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) dominated the second Paragon Road Race with Hari Rimal and Bishwo Rupa Budha prevailing in the men’s and women’s event on Saturday.
Rimal completed the 5km race in 14:27.14 followed by Narayan Thapa (14:36.15) of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and his team-mate Gopi Chand Parki (14:36.46) came second and third respectively. In the women’s category, Budha (15:43.48) finished the race way ahead of second placed Saraswoti Bhattarai (18:46.28) of TAC and APF’s Phulmati Rana (19:20.24). The winners of both the men’s and women’s category walked away with a purse of Rs 25,000 while second and third placed runners received Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 each.
Ajit Yadav of APF School triumphed in the 5km school race for boys’ and Sangeeta Khadka of Bijeshwori School grabbed the pole position in the girl’s event. Yadav completed the race in 17:37.97 while Khadka took 20:12.82. Khem Budha Magar (17:47.82) came second followed by Dinesh Kumai (19:39.13) in the third position. In the girls’ category, Neha Lama (20:14.63) of Ankur Vidhya Ashram got hold of the second position as Sunita Shrestha (22:21.51) of Bijeshwori came home third.
Meanwhile, Paragon School feted Bimala Tamang, the lone medal winner of the 17th Asian Games for Nepal with a cash of Rs 25,000. Social worker Anuradha Koirala handed over the cash and a letter of appreciation to the 18-year-old Tamang who had won bronze in women’s karate individual kata in the Games.
