KMC spends Rs 140m on Saarc projects

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has released details of funds spent on Saarc beautification projects. According to the metropolis, around Rs 140 million was spent on various projects and make necessary purchases ahead of the Saarc Summit.

Among top projects on which KMC spent funds include installation of musical fountain at Ranipokhari, decoration of VIP areas, road construction, greenery, refurbishing city landmarks, Basantapur decoration and installation of solar lights. According to the KMC, it spent around Rs 34 million on the musical fountain alone.

Though the estimated budget for the projects was around Rs 170 million, the metropolis spent around Rs 140 million. “This amount might decrease as we have to make adjustments with contractors,” KMC chief Dhana Bahadur Shrestha said. The government had allocated Rs 78.5 million for the beautification projects while the remaining amount was spent from KMC’s coffers.
