Dept turns deaf ear to House panel order
- profile of recruiting agencies
Dec 20, 2014-
The Department of Foreign Employment has failed to furnish organisational profile of foreign employment recruiting agencies even a month after being directed by Parliament to do so.
In November, the International Affairs and Labour Committee had directed the Ministry of Labour and Employment to provide profiles of all foreign employment agencies in the country.
Ministry officials say the department has failed to submit the profile on time citing non-cooperation from recruiting agencies.
“The recruitment agencies have ignored repeated requests of the department. We have again directed them to make it available using all measures possible,” said a ministry official.
The parliamentary committee has directed the ministry to provide it with the details, including their account of financial transaction, legal status, work volume, organisational structure, and background and track record of their owners.
Committee Chair Prabhu Sah told the Post that the financial account and organisational status would help the government better scrutinise recruiting agencies, while eliminating the fraudulent ones. The committee hopes to make recommendation to the government in order to promote ethical and accountable recruitment practice.
