Man arrested on murder charge
Dec 27, 2014-
Police on Saturday arrested Sanjeev Mishra of Dhamaura-7 in suspicion of murdering of his 16-year-old daughter Sonali.
Though the family members said the girl committed suicide, police suspect otherwise. Sonali was found hanging in her room on December 20 using a skipping rope.
Police have already interrogated mother Binita and the deceased girl’s sisters Shalini and Amisha. According to their statement, the three sisters had fought over which channel to watch on the television and as the televisions remote control broke, Binita scolded all three of them but was a little harsh towards Sonali, following which she committed suicide.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Shrestha said they found the incident a bit suspicious as the family did not inform police about the incident and conducted her final rites in a village in Bihar, India. Mishra, however, has justified his actions stating that they conducted the final rites in the village as it was his ancestral home and to save themselves from social vilification. Mishra, who was originally from India and now a Nepali citizen, has long been living in Nepal as a pharmaceutical businessman.
Stating that Mishra’s claims were skeptical, Shrestha said they are investigating into the case.
