The Saldanda Primary School in Bharta stands out from other schools in the area as it is equipped with modern classrooms and has managed to provide variety of toys to students who come to school in neat and clean uniform.
The school runs classes up to the eighth grade. The publications, as part of its corporate social responsibility, had provided Rs 1.2 million to the school to construct a four-room earthquake-resistant building. Stating that the school environment is alluring, District Education Officer Ghanshyam Poudel said the institution has become a model in terms of infrastructure development, child-friendly environment and social mobilisation. “In a district where attendance rate of students is less than 70 percent, the school has managed to tackle the problem exceptionally well,” Poudel said.
According to Headmaster Arjun Prasad Gyawali, the school managed to turn into a model due to relentless efforts put in by stakeholders working in collaboration with various agencies. The school managed to grab first place at the district level educational material exhibition for two years in a row and has been able to attract students even from private schools due to its quality education. Recently, nine children were transferred to the school from a Jeete Bazaar-based private school. “We found the quality of education quality in the school better than that of the private school,” said local Anil BK. Taking cues from BK who transferred his son and daughter to the school, other parents had followed suit.
The school management committee has also formed a teacher-parent association and a child club in the school. Katak Bahadur Malla, chairman of the management committee, said the association helped solve disputes, held discussions on transparency and monitor student attendance.
