Govt to brief int’l community

The government will appraise the Kathmandu-based diplomats and members of

international community of the latest political situation, including the constitution drafting process, on Thursday.

Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat and Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey will brief the international community on the latest political situation of the country. The briefing is taking place on the day the self-imposed deadline set by the parties to promulgate the new constitution expires. This is the second briefing of the government to the international community since its formation last year.

Twenty-nine heads of the missions have been invited for the event, along with the members from various donor agencies. Mahat and Pandey will tell the international community how the UCPN(Maoist) and its alliance obstructed the constitution writing process, said a government source.

Naturally, the government will press its position to the international community,

but it will also give a message that the ruling parties are not against consensus, the source said.

Minister Pandey said the event was organised update the international community about the recent political development of Nepal and to inform them about the government’s future course of action.
