Captured bikes fall into disrepair due to negligence
Jan 28, 2015-
Dozens of motorcycles impounded by the Traffic police in Pokhara have been damaged or rendered inoperable due to lack of care and maintenance.
Vital parts of motorcycles, including chains, brakes, and engines have been damaged, some of them beyond repair, because of keeping the bikes out in the open for too long. As a result, hundreds of thousands of rupees of public money have gone down the drain.
The motorcycles impounded by District Police Office, Kaski have also faced same fate. Inspector Shyam Aryal said that since the traffic police office in Pokhara does not have a building of its own, there is no place to properly store the impounded vehicle. Though there is a provision to even auction off the vehicles, the traffic police seem to be least concerned.
“The general public have to suffer great losses because of the sheer negligence and apathy of the traffic police towards the private and public vehicles that have been impounded,” said Kapil Koirala, chairman of the Consumer’s Rights Forum, Kaski, adding that they have received many complaints regarding the issue.
