Kerung border point re-opens after six weeks
Jan 31, 2015-
Chinese authorities re-opened the road on Friday after the snow melted and blockades were removed in the Chinese side.
According to Rasuwa Customs chief Shambhu Khadka, a dozen trucks have crossed the Kerung border point and half a dozen vehicles from China have already cleared customs checks. He said the vehicles imported ready-made clothes, shoes and other fashion accessories. Likewise, due to the approaching Gyalpo Lohsar, wheat, saccharin and other spices are being exported to the northern neighbour.
Immigration Office chief Surendra Prdhan said the movement of people also increased following the opening of the border. The office has been issuing one day passes to locals entering Kerung and providing on-arrival visa to Chinese nationals as well as other foreigners.
