Mining company equipment set on fire

An unidentified group has set ablaze two excavators and one generator that were being operated at Annapurna Limestone Mine at Jawang in Jogimara in the district on Sunday. While one excavator and generator has been completely destroyed in the incident, another excavator has been partially damaged.
The HD Kolbe Company excavator (Ga 1 Kha 6265) was destroyed in the blaze while the Komatsu excavator (Ba 1 Kha 6844) was partially damaged by fire.
A 25 KVA generator that was installed just a couple of days ago to power a machinery used to process sand and stone in the mining site has also been gutted in the blaze.
The excavators were leased by the mine operators from Pokhara-based Phewa Constructions Company. According to company manager Bhojraj Koirala, they came to know about the fire only upon reaching the site on Sunday morning. By that time the equipments had been destroyed completely.
While the perpetrators behind the incident and are yet to be identified, police inspector Hemanta Bhandari Chettri of Area Police Office, Gajuri said that they were investigating into the incident.
Initial damage assessment suggest that property worth Rs 12 million was gutted in the arson incident, police said. Police said that the incident was hard to investigate as there are no human settlement near the site, ruling out the possibility of possible witnesses.
Following the incident, the mine that employs 70 workers and transporting 30 truckloads of stones to Nawalparasi-based Subham Cement Industry, remained shut on Sunday.
