New biogas programme launched

The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) on Tuesday launched a national-level new biogas programme that focuses on developing market for commercial and municipal scale waste to energy projects by installing biogas plants.

AEPC is taking the initiative to utilise the commercial and municipal waste to generate renewable energy building on the success of the domestic biogas market. “The programme supports both converting organic waste into energy such as gas, thermal or electrical power,” said Sushim Man Amatya, programme officer at the Large Biogas and Waste to Energy under AEPC. The project aims to bring together a variety of actors to promote knowledge sharing and help form networks that will enable the business and development community to participate in waste management.

In 2015, Nepal will celebrate 60 years of biogas technology. The country is known

internationally for the success of its household size biogas plants.
