Parbat schools sans child-friendly furniture
Feb 15, 2015-
A majority of primary-level students in Pangrang-based Siddha Secondary School and Panchakoshi Lower Secondary School stand in their classrooms almost throughout the day as the desks and benches they are using were built for secondary-level students.
The third, fourth and fifth graders in the schools are used to facing such treacherous conditions as they cannot read and write using the tall desk and benches.
The situation is just part of a much larger problem ailing schools in the district, as most of them lack even basic infrastructure required for students. The indifference of community schools administration has only added to the problem.
“We have difficulties reading and writing while sitting on the tall benches and have no option other than standing in the class,” said Santa Bahadur Gurung, a student at the Panchakoshi School. Likewise, Shanti Pathak, a fifth grader at Siddha Secondary, also complained of back and neck pain due to the problem.
