Joshi shines in Dhangadi win

Region No 7 Janakpur and Region No 9 Dhangadi won their respective matches in the U-16 Inter School Girls National Cricket Tournament held in Lahan, Siraha, on Wednesday.

Dhangadi rode on a half century form Kabita Joshi to beat Region No 4 Bhairahawa by 53 runs. Joshi smashed 48-ball 66 not out as Dhangadi posted 154-3 in allotted 20 overs. Kabita Kunwar returned to take 3-5 off four overs to help Dhangadi bowl Bhairahawa out for 101. Punam Pharswan (24) and Chandani Shah (16) were the other run contributors for Dhangadi. Anisha Shah, Sristhi Raskoti and Parwati Saru grabbed one wicket each for Bhairahawa.

Kriti Sen had led the run chase for Bhairahawa with 25 runs followed by run-a-ball 19 from Sima Thapa. But rest of their batting collapsed as they were all out in the 19th overs. Joshi also shone with the ball, taking two wickets.

In the other match, Janakpur hammered Region No 2 Birgunj by 108 runs. Karishma Dhamala (45), Anuradha Chaudhary (24) and Aarati Chaudhary (22) contributed with the bat as Janakpur piled on 160-7. Binu Roka and Mamata Chaudhary’s excellent bowling saw Birgunj innings fold for 52 runs in 19 overs. Kriti Sen top scored with Birgunj with 25 runs. Roka claimed 3-5 and Chaudhary took 3-6.

The week-long tournament, where eight teams from nine regions are participating, will spread to Sarlahi from Thursday. Region No 3 Kathmandu will take on Region No 8 Pokhara and Region No 1 Biratnagar will play Region No 5 Nepalgunj in Hariwan. In Lahan, Birgunj play Dhangadi and Janakpur face Bhairahawa.
