Nepal enter semi-finals

KATHMANDU: Nepali duo of Ira Raut and Alsa Regmi entered the girls’ team semi-finals of the World Junior Lawn Tennis Asian Oceania Group’s selection round on Saturday.  Raut and Regmi edged Lebanon 2-1 in the quarter-finals. Raut downed Aldib Nor 7-5, 7-5 while Regmi went down 7-6, 7-6 against Meera Al Sayad. In the doubles Raut and Regmi prevailed 7-6, 7-5.  The boys’ team of Samrakshyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Renjan Lama lost the match against Yemen 2-1. (PR)

Nepalgunj rout Pokhara

SARLAHI: Laxmi Chaudhary and Namita Nepali hammered explosive half centuries as Region No 5 Nepalgunj crushed Region No 8 Pokhara in the Wai Wai U-16 Girls’ National Cricket Tournament on Saturday. Nepalgunj made a mammoth 212 without loss in 20 overs before bundling out Pokhara for just 36 runs in 9.3 overs with Kamala Budhathoki picking up four wickets. Chaudhary made 91 off 68 with 12 boundaries and Nepali scored 66 off 55 hitting nine fours. (PR)

Morang hammer Makawanpur

CHAUTARA: Morang dispatched Makawanpur 12-0 in the U-14 Girls’ National Football Tournament here on Saturday. In the other match of the day, Nawalparasi routed Bara 10-0 and Taplejung registered a slim 2-0 victory over Kathmandu. The eight-day tournament serves as the selection of Nepali squad for the AFC U-14 Regional Championship slated for April 20-25 in Kathmandu. Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Iran and Maldives are other teams in the tournament. (PR)
