Marijuana seized

BIRATNAGAR: Police seized a large quantity of marijuana from Morang, Mahottari and Siraha districts on Sunday. Two suspected smugglers, including an Indian national, were held with 4 kilograms of marijuana from Itahara in Morang while 40-year-old woman of Mahottari was detained with 5 kilograms of marijuana, police said. Similarly, security personnel seized 50 kilograms of marijuana from Golbazaar in Siraha. (PR)

Teachers start stir, schools shut

RAUTAHAT: All 501 community schools in the district were closed due to teachers’ protest on Sunday. Ram Mangal Raya, a teacher, said that they were compelled to stage protests as the authorities concerned failed to address their demands. The teachers have demanded timely salary, allowance and other facilities. (PR)

Man kills self in police custody

GULMI: Ram Bahadur BK, 39, committed suicide in police custody in the

district on Saturday evening. Police said BK, a resident of Resunga-8, killed self by hanging in toilet. He was arrested on Friday evening on the charge of stealing goods from a local mosque. BK’s relatives, however, said that the incident is suspicious. (PR)

Negligent driver held in custody

HETAUDA: The District Court in Makwanpur has remanded a driver, whose negligence claimed the lives of seven people, in custody. A single bench of Judge Dipendra Adhikari on Sunday gave such decision against 30-year-old Birendra Raya Yadav of Sarlahi. Yadav is the driver of a truck that overturned at Hetauda-17 some months ago, killing seven people and injuring nine others. (PR)
