Six dead, 53 injured in bus plunge

Five people died and 53 others were injured when bus fell 150 metres down the road at Magartole in Pokhara-26 on Friday.
The bus (Ga 1 Kha 4849) was travelling to Pokhara from Guntechaur of Kaskikot. Police identified the dead as Bibas Timilsina, 16, Hari Bahadur Khatri, 50, Goma Luitel, 40, Lekh Bahadur Dhakal, 50, Tara Thapa, 39, of Pokhara-26, and Bhima KC, 55, of Kaskikot-6.
Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Pal said many of the injured are in critical state. Thirty-eight of them are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Pokhara while four others, including an eight-month-old boy, were sent to Kathmandu for treatment.
Driver Khil Bahadur Ale Magar, who fled after the accident, later turned himself to the police. He said the bus crashed after the front wheels slipped in a muddy stretch.
Arjun Timilsina, who survived the accident, told the Post from the hospital bed that the bus was overcrowded. He claimed that despite their protest, the driver continued to pick passengers from every stop possible.
