KMC-Sisdole folk row hits waste mgmt
Mar 12, 2015-
The growing tension between locals at Sisdole Landfill site in Nuwakot and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is likely to worsen the garbage management in the Valley in the coming days.
Local people in Sisdole on Wednesday burnt four KMC vehicles and have been obstructing trucks ferrying garbage to the landfill site after a three-year-old Rijan Shrestha who was knocked down by a KMC’s mini truck.
Organising a press meet on Thursday, eleven workers’ associations of the metropolis employees announced that they will stop collecting garbage to protest the Sisdole folk’s move to set ablaze KMC vehicles. The workers’ associations also blamed the government for failing to provide security to metropolis staffers as well as the vehicles.
