Seventeen Nepalis who are jailed in Hisar district of Haryana state in India during the raid at an ashram of self-styled guru, Rampal, have been granted bail by a local court, the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi said on Saturday.

The court has ordered them to post the bail of IRs 100,000 each. Acting Nepali Ambassador to India Krishna Prasad Dhakal said they intend to make an appeal to lower the bail amount.

Guru Rampal and his supporters, including 24 Nepali nationals, were arrested from the ashram compound on November 19, 2014.

Meanwhile, the hearing of seven other Nepalis is set to take place on March 26.

“As they face serious charges , including arms possession and attempt to murder, the trial is expected to be lengthy. We will have to wait for the verdict,” an official said.
