Shedding light on dark truths
Mar 14, 2015-
Sambodhi, a play written and directed by Ram KAC, is being staged at the Theatre Mall, Sundhara, from March 13 to 29. The play tells the story of a woman who suffers repeated sexual abuse from her own family members and shows the challenges that the victims of such abuses face in our society.
One day, while doing her homework, Usha (played by Neha Pokhrel) is raped by her brother, Subash (played by Bibek Gopali). Their mother (played by Eliza Karki) knows about it, but stops Usha from disclosing this to anyone else. Instead, she is married off to another man (played by Anil Subba) without her consent. The abuse doesn’t stop there. In her new home, she is again raped by her father-in-law (played by Bishal Dotel).
Helpless and deranged, she tries to commit suicide but is saved by her husband. At last, when she loses her husband to a poisoned dinner, she ends up in the hospital, disturbed and unhinged.
Other actors performing in the play include Subina Poudel, Amrita Khanal and Anna Deuja. Speaking about the relevance of the play, writer/director KAC said,” As sexual harassment is fast becoming a major concern in our country, we decided to stage this play to inform the people about the issue and put pressure on the concerned authorities to take concrete steps against it.”
