Mar 21, 2015-

The 13th national convention of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) concluded in Chitwan on Saturday, issuing a 15-point declaration. The Chitwan declaration states that the NBA had been gravely concerned by the act of defaming the judiciary by failing to take action against judges involved in financial irregularities.

Legal practitioners have called for the judicial council to investigate into the matter and initiate legal procedure.

The charter also demands that the political parties keep in mind the agreements made in the past and forge consensus in the constitution drafting process. The NBA has appealed the political parties to draft a federal democratic constitution with inclusive proportional representation.

The declaration also requested the cabinet to set up separate mechanisms to appoint members of the

judicial council and take action against those working beyond the legal threshold.

It has also pointed out problems in the execution of verdicts by lower courts due to the delay in appointment of Chief Justice in the Supreme Court and has strongly urged the government to act upon it.

Along with Law Minister Narhari Acharya, over 3,000 legal practitioners from around the country participated in the event. During the programme, legal journalism awards were bestowed upon Kishor Poudel of Kantipur Television and Binita Dahal of BBC Nepali Service.
