Ban on plactic use concerns FNCCI
Apr 3, 2015-
Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Friday expressed concern over the government’s decision to ban polythene bags from April 14, the Nepali New Year’s Day.
In a statement, it urged the government to focus on proper management of plastic bags rather than imposing a blanket ban on its use in the Valley.
The FNCCI said the ban would affect employment and investment in the sector. It cautioned the move could affect adversely the entire production sector along with the government’s revenue. “At the time when the country has been facing lack of investment, the government should think about the impact of such a decision.”
The Cabinet has endorsed the government decision to impose a ban on the use of plastic bags. Production, sale and daily use of any form of polythene bags will be illegal, and those found to be using it will be penalised under the Local Self Governance Act.
