CAN gives 3-month extension to CEO, FM

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Apr 15, 2015-

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided to give a three-month extension to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire and Finance Manager (FM) Prakash Maharjan on Wednesday.

The six-month contract of both the paid administrators had expired on Tuesday but CAN was left undecided over the duo’s future. CAN was once again lashed by criticism in social media on Wednesday after it was said to have been divided to give extension of the two recruits, particularly CEO Ghimire.

CAN Acting President Deepak Koirala admitted that there was division in the cricket governing body to extend Ghimire’s contract. “There were majority of members who didn’t want to extend Ghimire’s contract. Since we cannot deny the fact that she has contributed to the momentum gathered by cricket, we had to come to an agreement,” said Koirala.

“We have also been closely watched by the ICC (International Cricket Council) and ACC (Asian Cricket Council) who believed that we cannot let the posts go vacant. It is not only about Bhawana Ghimire but any CEO in general,” added Koirala.

A meeting of the cricket governing body also decided to hold its general assembly on May 13 where it will also fix the tenure of the paid administrators including CEO and Finance Manager. The current statute of CAN doesn’t mention about the tenure for the two posts. CAN also decided to recruit Cricket Operations Manager and Development Officer in nine cricket development regions.
