NPC begins consultations for bebuilding

The National Planning Commission (NPC) has intensified consultations with donor agencies and experts to prepare both short and long term policy for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the aftermath of the Great Earthquake of April 25.

NPC has already held preliminary discussion with almost all donor agencies working in the country to seek their suggestions.

NPC Vice-chairman Govinda Pokharel said they are holding discussions at various levels to prepare a separate policy for urban and rural infrastructure reconstruction. Besides, the NPC is also looking for development partners to reconstruct the damaged structures.

NPC officials held a consultation with the Indian experts on Tuesday on preparing human settlement plan in rural areas.

The experts shared their knowledge and experience about the human settlement plan in Uttarakhand state of India which was devastated by a  massive flood in 2013.

NPC officials said the experts suggested giving special attention on the management of scattered human settlements in rural areas before undertaking the reconstruction works.

Pokhrel said that their main priority was formulating a concrete action plan which would pave the way for collecting international support for reconstruction project.
