Valley height raised by 80cm: Survey Department

The movement of tectonic plates that triggered massive earthquake in the country on April 25 caused the altitude of Kathmandu Valley to increase by 80 centimetres, according to the government.
The findings of study conducted by the Survey Department under the Ministry of Land Reform and Management shared on Wednesday mentioned that the Valley is now situated at an altitude higher than what was 1,338 metres above the sea level before the quake.
According to Madhu Sudan Adhikari, chief at the department, their team had used Global Positioning System technology and satellite images to determine the shift in the Valley’s altitude.
Officials said the change in geological configuration of will not have any effect.
